We are an all volunteer rescue and we do not have any paid staff. We do not have a shelter as all of our dogs live in foster homes throughout the Valley, Flagstaff and Tucson. If you are interested in any of our fosters, please get in touch with their foster mom. We also have adoption events every weekend in the East and West Valley.

Please be patient with us and we will do our best to answer all e-mails within 48 hours. If you haven't received a response in 48 hours, please feel free to email the website and/or call our hotline number. Thank you.

We only adopt to Arizona residents.

All dogs currently residing in your home must be fixed and up-to-date on all vaccines. AZCR will determine the best home for each dog based on the application process and interview. The application and/or interview does not guarantee an approval. It also does not guarantee the adoption of a particular dog you may be interested in. AZCR may recommend a different dog more suitable to your household. AZCR is a privately run, non-profit organization and reserves the right to refuse any adoption that is not in the best interest of the dog based on our policies and standards.

BANDIT
**COURTESY POST**

This is a courtesy post for Bandit's current owner or person who found him. He is NOT in the care of AZCR, if you are interested in learning more about him and how to adopt him and his adoption fees contact Judy at her email listed below.

Bandit is about 13 years old and his owner passed away a few weeks ago. He is neutered, and up to date on shots. He does have arthritis in his hind legs, which can cause him to be grumpy sometimes, so will need to see a vet to determine if medication can help ease his pain. He's good with other small dogs, but does need to be fed separately, as he does resource guard. It is unknown if he can live with cats. His owner was elderly, so it is unknown if he is good with children, so an adult home would be best.

Please email Judy (pa_phillips@icloud.com) for information about how to adopt Bandit.

BENNY

Hi Everyone! I’m Benny.

I’ve got a story to tell, but can’t get in to much of it. Let me say this, my humans surrendered me and 12 of my sisters and brothers. So, I gotta find a new place where my people will love and care for me.

I was born on May 12, 2016 and am a 10.3 lb active boy. I’m one of those mixed breeds with a lot of doxie in me and some Chihuahua. I’m one good looking neutered dude. Count me as a healthy dog with a good appetite. I LOVE food. I get to sleep next to my foster mom. Yeah! And she rubs my belly. Yes!

Good news: I’m potty trained and use a dog door. I love playing with other dogs. I can entertain myself which is a good thing, and I like chewing my chew toys.

I need someone to help me learn about walking on a leash, my foster mom says, I am starting to real good, but it’s not so easy for me, and I get scared of noises, like cars and well too many things. No crate, please. I hate it, but I’m learning how to use one. I was nervous in my new home at first and will need time to warm up. Guess you could say I’m a work in progress.

You will adore me if you give me a chance. I like women and kids, but men make me a little nervous.
Cats? There are a few that roam around outside, but I don't seem to pay them any attention. So what do you say… I could be YOURS!

Benny is current on all shots, microchipped and neutered.

Please email Ellen (ellenlebaron@gmail.com) for information about Benny.

BIRDY

Hi Everyone, my name is Birdy. Yep. You got it. BIRDY. I’m 2 1/2 years old, weigh 6 pounds and am one beautiful girl. I am white with black spots. My ears are different colors. One is white; the other black. So awesome! I love it!

I think of myself flying and zooming round and round, til I plop down in a little heap, ready for a nap. It’s fun when I get to run and play with other little dogs, but hey, keep those young 2 legged kids away from me. They move too fast, and it scares me. Same goes for strangers. I’ll SNAP at them, too. Cats … hm… don’t
know. I haven’t spent time with them.

You might think I’m standoffish. I’m not really. It takes me some time to warm up. I gotta get a sense of you first. After a day or so, I’m fine. Then I’m more like a velcro Chi. I’ll stick close by and follow you everywhere!

My foster mom thinks I’m sweet - as sweet as anyone can be. She’ll tell you I’m a work in progress. I use the doggie door, and am learning about going potty outside. I don’t know about walking with a leash. Maybe you could help me with that. I’ll sleep in my crate or will sleep in bed with you.

I’m healthy, happy, love lots of tummy rubs, and am waiting for YOU to come adopt me.

Please email Beth (vanlew4345@yahoo.com) for information on how to adopt Birdy.

BRODY

Brody is an active and playful 1 1/2 year old little boy. He was one of 13 dogs that came from the San Tan 13 rescue. He weighs about 7 pounds. Brody is a little shy at first, but quickly warms up and wants lots of love and attention. He has learned to use the dog door and likes to lay in your lap while you relax on the couch. He is good with other small dogs and absolutely loves treats and a kong toy with peanut butter. He does need to be worked with for walking on a leash but he is very smart.

Please email Sindy (sindymiller0211@gmail.com) for information about Brody.

CAMILLA

Camilla is about 8 years old, around 7 pounds and a little love bug. She is ok with other dogs her size but would do great as an only dog as she wants tons of attention. She knows how to use a dog door and wants to sleep in bed with you. She will not kennel so if you are looking for a nightly addition to cuddle with in your human bed, here she is! If not, then Camilla wouldn't be a match for you. She absolutely adores being with her human so will do best with a person that is home most of the day. She needs to go to a home with no young children or large dogs. Camilla is spayed, vaccinated and micro chipped.

Please email Sindy (sindymiller0211@gmail.com) for information about Camilla.

CERSEI

Cersei is one of the San Tan 13 furkids. A gorgeous tri color little lady, she is about a year and a half, around 8 pounds and very sweet. She is a little shy but has started to come out of her shell. She goes out for potty on schedule and kennels at night after getting a puppy cookie. She will need a home that will give her a little time to adjust as she has been through so much. She is great with other dogs her size and likes to have her sister, Sansa, sleep in her kennel with her.

Please email Sindy (sindymiller0211@gmail.com) for information about Cersei.

CHICO

Chico is a sweet and gentle little man. He's believed to be about 15 years old, but he is a very young 15 year old and he weighs about 5 pounds. He is well behaved and quiet, all he wants is a soft bed and a blanket to burrow under. If you hold the blanket up over his dog bed and call his name, he gets so excited and runs to jump in his bed, then looks up at you and just waits for you to let the blanket gently cover him. He then settles down for a nap. Chico will run to his kennel when told its night night time, and happily waits for his night time puppy cookie before going to sleep. He has no known medical issues, and no teeth! Unfortunately all had to be removed. He eats dry kibble just fine. Chico is fine with other small, mellow dogs, but would also be good as an only dog. He is housebroken when taken out on schedule. He is a just a little guy so can not be placed in a home with young children or large dogs. Chico is looking for that special person that will cherish and love him for the rest of his life!

Please email Sindy (sindymiller0211@gmail.com) for information about Chico.

COCO, BLACKY and WHITIE
**COURTESY POST**

This is a courtesy post for Coco, Blacky and Whitie's current owner or person who found them. They are NOT in the care of AZCR, if you are interested in learning more about them and how to adopt them and their adoption fees contact Paloma Foulkes at her email listed below.

Coco, Whitie and Blacky need help to find a forever home that can keep them together. This three member Chihuahua mix bonded family have been looking for a forever home for a long time. Coco (mom) was rescued in December 2014 at a manufacturing company in Mexicali, Mexico, pregnant. She had six babies, one didn´t make it and three got adopted soon. Time passed and Blacky, Whitie and Coco became extremely bonded. They play, sleep and eat together! They do everything together! It is hard to find a home for one dog and harder for three, but Paloma truly believes in bonds among all creatures. These friends are bonded and deserve to live together. They are spayed and neutered and have shots to date. Coco is 3 yrs old and Blacky and Whitie are 1.4 yrs old. Paloma is located in Mexicali but will transport to a loving and good forever home!

Please email Paloma (palomafoulkes@outlook.com ) for information about how to adopt this loving and bonded family.

COWBOY

Hi Ya!

I wanna introduce myself. My name is Cowboy, but my foster mom likes calling me Neelix - you know, the cook from Star Trek’s Voyager crew. Neelix and I have a few things in common, He was an alien native from a far distant galaxy. I feel like an alien, too. I don’t remember where I came from, and I still don’t feel safe here on planet Earth. I’m kinda like a cowboy lookin for a safe forever home.

I’m cute. As cute as can be, with lots of character. How many little guys do you know with long wispy whiskers on their cheeks and in between their toes? Kinda like Neelix. I know I’m small at 6 pounds, but I’m made up of tough stuff: Chi and Terrier.

Tough lookin on the outside, but scared on the inside. So scared. I wish I wasn’t. I’m working on it, but it’s not easy. I get along with other dogs, but I don’t know how to play with them. Walking on a leash makes me shake and quiver. Too many loud noises. I get anxious in the car, but with a little work, maybe I’d learn to like it.

I confess that I’m possessive of my human. I think I wanna be the only dog. I’ll bite when someone comes near me all of a sudden. My history of being a pleasant boy isn’t always stellar. My human from a long time ago turned me in to the Rescue because I was biting his adult son. Honest. I don’t know what made me do it.

Give me some canned food and fruit and veggies for treats. Yum! I know how to use the dog door, so I’m good there. I wish I could tell you my birthdate, but no one seems to know it. My foster mom believes I’m 5 -7 years old. I still have lots of life left in me. Do you have a heart so big that you could take me in as your very own? I hope so, cuz I’m the lonesome cowboy lookin’ for a place to call home.

Please email Angela (areeves13@hotmail.com) for information about Cowboy.

CYNTHIA ROSE

I am about one to two years old. I am new to the rescue but I do know how to use the doggie door. Please check back soon for more information as my foster mom gets to know me!

Please email Beth (vanlew4345@yahoo.com) for information on how to adopt Cynthia Rose.

DAISY

Hi everyone,

My name is Daisy. I was born on September 28, 2006. I’m an older girl and as sweet as can be,
Don’t think of my age as a detriment. Consider me mature and classy. Look at my photo, you’ll know its true. I weigh 8 pounds, but what lady of a certain age isn’t a little wider around the waist?

The important thing is that I get along with everyone - women, men, cats (You heard me. CATS!), and even well behaved children. I’m a little shy at first, but it doesn’t take me long before I’m ready to greet visitors and show off my personality.

I’m potty trained and use a doggy door. That’s a sign of good breeding! At night, I sleep in my little bed beside my foster parents.

I like living here, and I’m grateful that my foster mom took me in after my real mom died. It would make me so happy though, if someone would make me their own special little furry kid. I’m a healthy Chi and ready for YOU to adopt ME.

Please email BJ
(bjrileytucson@aol.com) for more information about Daisy.

DEREK

My name is Derek and I was born 6/20/14. The rescue thinks that I am a chi/min-pin mix. I am neutered, micro chipped and up to date on my vaccinations. I love to run and play with my sister,Jules, but I also get along well with other dogs. I know how to use a doggy door, shake, walk onthe treadmill for treats and good with kids. I also love to cuddle with you. Please help me find my forever home.

If you are interested in meeting me, please email Allison (chispas@aceweb.com) for information.

DESTINY

Destiny is about 9 years old and weighs 5 1/2 pounds. She is sweet, smart and full of life! She is dog door trained and good on car rides. Destiny will kennel if needed, (we don't kennel her) but she is quite the snuggler and would much rather sleep in bed with you!

She is good with other dogs about her size, no large dogs, but would also be great as an only dog. Destiny can not be placed in a home with young children, she is best with adults only. She has been micro chipped, spayed, and just had a dental. Destiny is ready to join her forever family!

Please email Sindy (sindymiller0211@gmail.com) for information about Destiny.

DEXTER **ADOPTION PENDING**

My name is Dexter and I’m a very sweet little boy with the most adorable face you’ve ever seen.
I was born around May 17, 2016. I’m a young healthy neutered 7.3 lb Chi. I get along okay with men and women and kids too, if they are older. Can’t say about cats. We didn’t have any in the house where I lived.

I ended up in foster care because my humans didn’t want me and my 12 sisters and brothers. We were rescued way out in Sun Tan Valley, so we’re called the San Tan 13. It was scary for me. So scary that I’ve had to work at adjusting to a new place. It takes me some time to warm up. I need help becoming more friendly and comfortable with all people. I could also use some training with a harness and leash. I never learned much in my old home.

My foster dad says I’m a first class snuggler. That’s an achievement. FIRST CLASS SNUGGLER! Brings a smile to my face. He lets me sleep with him. I can sleep next to his feet or his face. I love it.

I can’t think of any tricks I do, but I’m active, like playing with other dogs, am potty trained and can use a dog door. I hate the crate. Yes. hate it!

Feed me, let me chew on a nylabone, and allow me to play tug of war. I love those things.
If you are a patient, understanding human who will allow me to come into your life, and show me the way, I could be your best furry kid ever.

Dexter is current on all vaccines, microchipped and neutered.

Please email Angela (areeves13@hotmail.com) for information about Dexter.

DOLLY

Meet Dolly!

Dolly has had a ruff time finding a perfect furever home. She is 9 years old and has been in and out of the shelter several times in the last 4 years. She is your typical chi, loving, needy, friendly lap dog, on her terms! she does not care to be man handled or to have her space invaded. I met her at the shelter and she let me scoop her up and take her for a walk, she loves to go for walks! And boy does she need it, she is VERY over weight! She probably weighs 11 lbs and should weigh 8lbs. She will need someone who understands her quirks and a home with no children or visiting children under the age of 13 to ensure they are old enough to respect her space. Today her new life starts! Also her new diet.

Please email Angela (areeves13@hotmail.com) for information about Dolly.

DOODLES

**A special needs dog can range anywhere from the elderly or injured in need of daily medication to the disabled requiring special restrictions and to the socially challenged in need of a patient and experienced owner.

The dogs here have a second chance at life because of Arizona Chihuahua Rescue. We believe EVERY dog has an owner out there who will love them, care for them and accept them just the way they are.

Please, when looking at these wonderful dogs, be sure to read their bio in depth to see if you have the time, patience and know-how to take them into your home.**

Doodles DOB is 10/1/2010 and she weighs about 8 lbs.

She is a long legged Chihuahua brown in color and sweet as can be. Her nickname is Dobie because she will stand on her back legs and she looks like the house elf in the Harry Potter movies.

Doodles is house, crate and doggie door trained. She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations and has a microchip. She will be a wonderful addition to a family.

Doodles does have seizures and is currently taking daily medication to help her with them. They seem to be caused by stress and she would do best in a calm environment.

Please email Bobby (bcherishtaylor@aol.com) for information on how to adopt Doodles.

DORI aka ADORIABLE

I’m Dori, the 10 lb spayed princess Chi mix. My birthday is around June 2010. Someone found me delivering a baby pup and turned me over to foster care. I’m glad they did that! Unfortunately, my pup was born with a bad cleft palate and did not make it, But I am so glad my foster mom did everything she could to help me and my pup.
My foster mom says I’m a good girl. It’s true. I am, although I’m not a very social kind of Chi. I like adults for the most part, but not kids. I like playing with other dogs, but I don’t know about cats. I sit right next to my humans, but I don’t want to be on anyone’s lap. It takes me a while to warm up. I dislike visitors and usually hide when they come over but when I think they oughta leave, I chase them out of the house. LOL!

My favorite thing to do is play the part of a princess. I sleep perched on top of a tall kennel. Its my very own private space. You can find me hiding beneath blankets and taking it easy. I’m a professional couch potato. When it’s summer, I like sitting out on the porch in the morning sun.

I’m potty trained and use the doggy door. I’ll go into the crate if I have to, but I’d rather not. It’s fun taking walks. The leash is fine, but cars scare me. I have this little weird habit of chasing my tail when I want my dinner. Kind a cute, I think.

Except for some crooked teeth, that gives me a special grin, I’m a healthy kid looking for my forever home. Could we do a meet and greet?

Dori is current on all vaccines, microchipped and spayed.

Please email Angela (areeves13@hotmail.com) for information about Dori.

DUCATI

Hey There - I’m Ducati

You heard right. Ducati. You ever heard of Ducati racing bikes? I’m not from that family, and I don’t own one of those machines. No doggles. No bike. No money. Darn!

I’m a nine and a half pound neutered Chi mix born on May 1, 2015. I have some siblings who look like me, but we’re in different foster homes. The Rescue took us in and offered us hope and love and lots of food. I’m part of the San Tan 13 group. Good news: We’re all safe from the humans who hoarded us.

I’m new at this foster business so don’t have lots to say. I’m a work in progress. I get along with women and kids over 10. Men are okay and cats, too. Its fun playing with the other dogs. Makes me feel alive! I also like human attention and especially cuddling and giving kisses. I’m good at that.

We’re working on my bathroom habits. I’m mostly potty trained, but … you know those buts! (lol) I’m not crate trained. I’ll go in it, but I don’t like it, and I whine! At night, I get to sleep under the covers in my human’s bed. Yes! As for my appetite. No worries. Bring on the food. Treats, too.

Looking for a healthy young dude? We could do a meet and greet … see how things go. I’d like that.

Please email Kendall (kendallweber08@gmail.com) for information about Ducati.

EINSTEIN (MEDICAL HOLD)

Meet Einstein! Einstein has been busy at school working out equations to your heart and to his furever home!

Einstein came to us from the shelter with an upper respiratory infection and a bad patella. He has finished all his medical and is ready to find his very own home. Because he spent so much time on kennel rest, we are just now starting to learn good potty habits.

He is an awesome snuggler, not destructive and he doesn't mind his kennel. He likes to play with the other dogs, but actually doesn't really know how to play, so it's quite funny!

He likes going on walks and car rides. He would love to be the center of attention, he gives gentle kisses, and wouldn't mind being carried around or taken every where you go.

He weighs around 6lbs his DOB is estimated at 12/2013. He is fully vetted and ready for his furever home.

Please email Angela (areeves13@hotmail.com) for information about Einstein.

GAVIN

Gavin came to Arizona Chihuahua Rescue as a stray from yuma. He is a shy guy but once warmed up he loves to cuddle. Gavin does not like men. He likes other dogs. Loves to play. He is working on his training but will need time and patience with that. So can you find it in your heart to adopt Gavin.

Please email Barb (barbr39@msn.com) for information on how to adopt Gavin.

GODIVA

Hi There - My name’s Godiva.

I love the name. Godiva…chocolate…the best…that’s me! Okay so I’m not exactly a chocolate truffle, but I could be the most delicious 10 pound, spayed Chi mix you will ever find. I was born on May 1, 2015, so I’m still a young girl looking for adventures.

Men, women, older kids and cats too…I like them all. Give me some other dogs to play with, and I’m happy. I came from a place where there were 13 of us. We’re called the San Tan 13. A brave woman from the rescue got called to our house, expecting to find only three of us, but there we were 13 furry kids who needed help. I’m so thankful we found people to take care of us.

I haven’t lived with my foster mom for very long, so we can’t say a whole bunch, but here’s the scoop so far. I know about going outside when I need to do my business. I also use a puppy pad in the house. I don’t have experience with doggy doors, but hey, you got one… I’m up for learning about it.
We haven’t practiced walking me on a leash, so could use some assistance with that.

I wanna bombard my humans with kisses. Sometimes I’m a little bossy about it. Sitting on a lap brings joy to my heart. At night I sleep under the covers near my foster mom’s feet. YAY!

I’m a healthy active kid with a hearty appetite looking for my forever home. Could it be yours?

Please email Kendall (kendallweber08@gmail.com) for information about Godiva.

GUS

Hi Everyone,

I’m Gus, a neutered Chi / Jack Russel mix - big boned, sturdy, and have the look of a weight lifter. I’m 13 pounds and all muscle! Jack Russel, you say. Hmm - Bet you think I’m an expert digger, filled with high energy and a cat chaser. Nope. That’s not me.

Its too hot outside for digging. Besides that, I don’t wanna dig. I’m an energetic guy but not destructive. If you tell me to sit and stay, I do. If you want me to run, tell me. As for cats. Wow! I don’t wanna be messin’ with them. We have two in this house and I can tell you, I do not go near them!!

I was born on May 10, 2015. My tribe is the San Tan 13. We were rescued late at night on May 15, 2017. It was scary for us, but all my siblings and I are grateful we found humans to care for us. I didn’t have any skills and knew nothing about being a dog, but I’m one smart cookie and have made up for lost time. I will stand at the door when I need to go potty. I’m learning to use a doggy door. I am attentive and eager to please. Give me a lap to sit on. I love it. I think my calling is as a professional lap dog. I get to sleep under the covers and snuggle next to my foster mom.

I’m a work in progress. I could use more help with walking on a leash and becoming more sociable with humans and other dogs. We have another Chi here, but I ignore him. I like women, but don’t know about kids and men. Sudden noises and strangers scare me, but it doesn’t take me long to get over my fear. I whine when my foster mom leaves, but I don’t chew at the door or cause other problems. I don’t use a kennel, but will go in one if I have to.

What I really want is for YOU to come meet ME. Lets get together. I know you will want to adopt me.

Please email Jan (klinejan@yahoo.com) for information on how to adopt Gus.

HELEN and HENRY

Hello, we are Helen and Henry and we are a bonded pair of senior chihuahuas! Helen is about 6 pounds and Henry is 5.5 pounds. We are sweet and friendly and oh so adorable! We are looking for our forever home, could that be you?

Please email
Cassie

JACK

My name is Jack (Bauer).

I am a healthy 10 year old male, weight 8lbs, neutered, microchipped and up to date on all shots.

I have some fear issues with collars and leashes and may bite if I feel threatened. I would like to have a quiet home with no children or cats.

I love to sit in your lap but will need a loving person that understands my issues.

I came to the rescue because my family was moving and couldn't take me with them.

If you are interested in meeting me, please email Shelley (shelley@nusourceonline.com) for information.

JACKIE

My name is Jackie. I am a very cute red Chihuahua mix, my foster mom says she thinks I am mixed with dachshund. I have the prettiest eyes. They are a unique golden color and huge. I am a year and a half old, spayed female and up to date on my vaccines. I came from a hoarding situation and was taken to PACC where I was very scared with all the dogs barking and so many people walking by, especially since I had just been taken from my home. I like to play with my foster siblings, but I am bone aggressive so my foster mom doesn’t allow bones without supervision. I like to chase my cat siblings, but usually when a foster sibling initiates it. Now that I know my foster mom isn’t going to hurt me I follow her everywhere and I get so excited when she comes home I jump into her arms. I am still not sure of new people, especially when they come into my house. I do not like to be confines, but will go in a crate with some whining. I have convinced my foster mom to let me sleep in bed under the covers with her. My foster mom is so excited because I am potty trained! I go outside and if she isn’t home and I really need to go I will use the puppy pads.

I would like a home with someone who will have the patience to let me take my time to get to know them and feel comfortable in my new forever home. I like to play so it would be nice to have a sibling. I maybe ok with older children, but because I am nervous I need them to be patient.

Make sure to email my foster mom if you have questions and she will do her best to answer them.

Please email Kendall (kendallweber08@gmail.com) for information about Jackie.

JULES

My name is Jules and I was born 6/20/2014. The rescue thinks that I am a chi/min-pin mix. I am spayed, micro chipped and up to date on my vaccinations. I love to run and play with my brother,Derek, but I also get along well with other dogs, I know how to use a doggy door, sit, shake for treats and good with kids. I also like to cuddle with you and I would love to be your little love bug. Please help me find my forever home.

If you are interested in meeting me, please email Allison (chispas@aceweb.com) for information.

JULIA

Julia is a chi mix. She is about 5 or 6 years old and weighs about 13 pounds, but is working on losing a couple of those, she should be around 11 pounds. She is housebroken, extremely sweet and loving. She can be a real couch potato, but does like to play with toys. Julia is the perfect companion to snuggle on the couch and watch a movie with.

Please email Sindy (sindymiller0211@gmail.com) for information about Julia.

KATINA
**ADOPTION PENDING**

She is 1 1/2 years old and weighs about 4 pounds. She is a little bundle of love with the cutest underbite. Katina was one of the San Tan 13 recently brought into the rescue. She is very outgoing and friendly.

Please email Sindy (sindymiller0211@gmail.com) for information about Katina.

LADY

Lady is a sweet girl who was born approximately 2006. She is around 8 pounds. She came back to us when her owner, who originally adopted her from AZCR, passed away.

She gets along with other dogs but she loves the boys the best. Not sure how she is with little kids - would be best with kids older than 10 years. She is a snuggler and likes to sit in your lap or sleep near you.

She is a great walking partner. She has a very expressive face and adorable floppy ears. She is crate trained, spayed, and current on shots. She is a little shy at first, but warms up quickly, especially if you have food. She loves food! She would need to be fed 2x a day with small portions to keep her at a good weight. But you can add her favorite healthy treat - green beans :)

If you are looking for a wonderful companion, Lady is your girl! She currently lives with her foster mom in San Tan Valley.

Please email Heather (heather@hhpetservices.com) for information on how to adopt Lady.

LEILANI

Leilani is one of the San Tan 13 hoarding dogs. She is approximately one year old weighs about 7.5 lbs. She is very timid but is starting to trust more and is such a sweet girl. She is doing well with going potty outside and with crate training, although she can open crate doors and slip through gates. She does not seem too fond of larger dogs so would do best with dogs her own size. She loves to lay on laps and cuddle when she isn't playing with her brother Lucas. She is also okay with cats but is still not too sure about them. Her playful side is just starting to come out so stay tuned as we learn more about her.

Please email Cindi (cflass@hotmail.com) for information on how to adopt Leilani.

LEON

Leon was born in 2008. Leon is a puppy mill dog and although he has come a long way he still needs that special home that will understand his needs.

Lucas is approximately 5 months old and 6.7 lbs. He came from the San Tan 13 hoarding situation along with his sister Leilani. He is so cute and sweet but still needs training since he is a puppy. He loves to play and is working on crate training and housebreaking. He is fine with other dogs, kids over 9 and cats and would do best in a home where he had a playmate.

Please email Cindi (cflass@hotmail.com) for information on how to adopt Lucas.

MAGGIE

Hello, my name is Maggie. I am around 10 years old. Even though I am a little bit older, I still have a lot of miles left. I enjoy bones, walks, toys, and most of all snuggling under the covers with my foster mom. I am a total sweetheart. I get along with other dogs as long as they are not trying to eat my food or take my bone. Since I am an older gal I just grump at them. I get along with kids as well. I enjoy car rides and sun bathing. I am house trained and go in my kennel when I am told to. I am a little nervous at first and then I warm up. I only bark if the door bell rings. I am about 7 lbs and I am healthy although I do have some issues with my ears. I am looking for my forever home. Please contact my foster mom if you would like to meet me.

Please email
Cassie
(sugarcookie3512@yahoo.com) for information on how to adopt Maggie.

MARA JO

Mara Jo is the epitome of a princess. She loves to be carried and spoiled. She has chronic dry eye and had a surgery on her eye before coming to the rescue. She requires a drop in each eye 2x a day. She lays on her back and willingly lets you put in her drops as long as she gets a belly rub after. The drops are not very expensive but her adopter must commit to putting the drops in consistently and taking her for an annual check up to her eye vet. There is a possibility she may at sometime need to have another surgery if the lens placement were to ever slip. There is no way to predict when or even if she would need another surgery. Any vet office would be able to run an inexpensive test on her eye to determine if she would need to go to the eye care vet outside of her annual checkup. Mara Jo is about 6 years old and weighs 4 pounds. She is ok with other small dogs but would do better as an only dog or maybe one other small chihuahua. Mara Jo does not kennel but sleeps in a dog bed or with you. Because of her small size, she can't be adopted into a home with large dogs or very young children.

Please email Sindy (sindymiller0211@gmail.com) for information about Mara Jo.

MISS LILY(SPECIAL NEEDS)

**A special needs dog can range anywhere from the elderly or injured in need of daily medication to the disabled requiring special restrictions and to the socially challenged in need of a patient and experienced owner.

The dogs here have a second chance at life because of Arizona Chihuahua Rescue. We believe EVERY dog has an owner out there who will love them, care for them and accept them just the way they are.

Please, when looking at these wonderful dogs, be sure to read their bio in depth to see if you have the time, patience and know-how to take them into your home.**

I, her foster Mom, am proud to present our sweet girl, Miss Lily. She was adopted to a family some months back who recently returned her to the rescue. They said that she was being returned because (1) she does not like to travel and (2) she goes after the pant legs of men-from behind. Since she has been with me she has traveled in the car to and from the vet's office on several occasions with no problem whatsoever. She does however want to go after mens pant legs-from behind. We are working on that with her and she will stop her pursuit with a correction from me.

Miss Lily is well housetrained, she sleeps in her kennel overnight with no problems, she knows the command "sit", she is very affectionate with me, loves to give kisses and gets along fairly well with the other dogs in the household. She does aspire to be the dominate dog but we are also working on that and she is coming along. She could do okay with another dog but would probably do best as the only dog. Lily is about 6 years old.

Miss Lily tested negative for heartworm and is on heartworm preventive meds. She had some seizures while with her previous owner and she is on medication to control those. Miss Lily tested negative for Valley and Tick Fevers so the vet feels she is epileptic and will likely need to remain on seizure control meds for the remainder of her life.

Please email Barb (barbr39@msn.com) for information on how to adopt Miss Lily.

NAKITA

Nakita is a playful little girl. We estimate she was born sometime in the middle of May 2014. She weighs about 8 pounds and has learned to use the doggy door. She will sleep in a kennel at night or will sleep snuggled next to you if you let her. Nakita has a luxating patella, but it does not cause her any issues. She absolutely adores going to the dog park to run and play! She would be a great companion on a daily walk. Nakita is shy when she first meets new people, but after a day or two her playful personality shines through. She is uncomfortable around children, they make her nervous, so can not be adopted into a home with any. This baby girl is smart, loving and ready for her forever home!

Please email Sindy (sindymiller0211@gmail.com) for information about Nakita.

ODIN

Hi, my name is Odin and I am looking for my forever home. I do not do well with babies or toddlers and should go to a home with kids over 12.

I am a sweet and wonderful boy who loves to cuddle and loves toys. I like to find all the toys, pile them up and lay down on them to make them mine!

Please get in touch with my foster mom to learn more about me!

Please email Joyce (jmercer8780@gmail.com) for information on how to adopt Odin.

OPAL

Opal is a beautiful little girl. She is about 7 years old and weighs 7 pounds. She gets along great with other small dogs, but would also do well as an only dog.

Opal is a very gentle and sweet soul. She is a little shy when she first meets people and will creep up to you for you to pet her and pick her up to lay on your lap. After a day or two, she will come to you for some loving and give you kisses.

She goes potty outside when taken out on a schedule. This little girl is a real loving furbaby just looking for a loving furever home.

Opal has been spayed, micro chipped and vaccinated.

Please email Sindy (sindymiller0211@gmail.com) for information about Opal.

PADRE

Call me Padre, but I’m no father. I had the BIG operation! I was born around May 10, 2010 and currently weigh in at 5 lbs 11 oz. I’m one of the little guys who needs a bit of extra help. When I lived in my other home, I injured a disc in my back. Got a pinched nerve that acts up from time to time. Steps help me so I can get on the couch. I also need someone to remember not to let me jump off furniture! Yikes!! Hm… as long as I’m yippin’, I got a tell you that I need someone to keep up on my dental work annually.

You probably want to know why I’m in foster care. It’s like this. I was a “free” adoption. Life was good. I loved walking and being active, but something happened and yeah, I got that back injury, so my human returned me to the animal care center. Because I had this problem, they wanted to do me in. My foster, Angela, said “No way. Not gonna happen”. So, she took me home with her. After taking some Prednisone, I got better. I’m a good fella. I sleep in my kennel which means I’m crate trained.
I just figured out how to use a doggy door, and I am house trained, so no worries.

Walking is good for me, and I love it, even walking in the mountains feels great. It doesn’t hurt my back. I get along with everyone! I think I might even be okay with cats. Call me for dinner. I’ll be there. I like to eat, play with other dogs, and cuddle. I really love going places. When I hear my foster mom jangle her car keys, I run for the door. I’m a Chi on the go… so come on…let’s go to your home. I can be your boy. You can be my human.

Padre is up to date on all vaccines, microchipped and neutered.

Please email Angela (areeves13@hotmail.com) for information about Padre.

PEANUT

Greetings!

My name is Peanut, the not too little Chi. I’m a 15 year old lady, born on May 2, 2002.

Yep, I’m a bit on the chunky side at 10 pounds. It happens sometimes, when we get old. We gain weight! Also, I REALLY like food! I have a mild heart murmur but don’t take any medicines. If you help me keep my teeth clean and my weight down, all will be well.

I get along with everyone, including kids. Don’t know about the cats. Don’t live with any. I love car rides, I sleep with my humans, am potty trained, use a doggy door and the steps to get into bed. I’m not crate trained, but hey I’m a senior. I sleep a lot and don’t get into trouble. I do have a little quirk about being picked up. I’m not crazy about it and I might snap. Give me a few weeks to warm up and I will be happy to accept belly rubs and back scratches.

My owners surrendered me after I lived with them for ten years. You know why - because my mom got a new husband and a baby. I didn’t fit in their world anymore. Maybe I could fit in yours. I’d love a quiet home where there might be another senior dog or two. I want so much to belong to a new loving family. Maybe we could meet and see what happens.

Please email Sharon (homeofoldhorses@aol.com) for information on how to adopt Peanut.

PEDRO

Pedro came to us from county with a severe case of mange. He has been treated and is now doing really great and is looking for his forever home!

He is estimated to be about five years old and we think he is a Chihuahua/Italian greyhound mix.

His foster mom says he is a sweet boy and he has some adorable floppy ears and a cute spotted coat.

Please email
Cassie
(sugarcookie3512@yahoo.com) for information on how to adopt Pedro.

PERDY (Chi-Whisperer dog)

**A chi-whisper dog is a dog that needs that extra caring hand to help them get over the fears and habits that they developed due to being in one of the following:
Coming from a puppy mill
Coming from a bad back yard breeder
Coming from a hoarding situation
Coming from a an abusive situation
These are great dogs that just need that extra attention from people who have that special gift with animals**

Perdy aka Perdida was born 11-07-01 which means she spent 7 years breeding in a puppy mill. How sad. She also is timid but coming along nicely.

Please email Barb (at barbr39@msn.com) for information on how to adopt Perdy.

PEYTON

Peyton is a pretty, 2 yr old girl who is extremely playful! She loves to be in your lap but also loves to go outside and run and play with other dogs. Peyton didn't do well with small children, so she needs to go to a home without kids under the age of 12. She does really well with men - she absolutely loves my 22 yr. old son! No apartments or houses without a yard - she loves the outdoors. Peyton is one of the sweetest dogs and has brought so much love to our house. A family would be very lucky to have her as their dog.

Please email Becky (beckyrobinson1@cox.net) for information about Peyton.

PINTA

This is Pinta she is 9 years old and is very sweet girl.

When she first come to us she had to have some mammary masses removed. but she is fine now and is looking for her forever home. She needs to lose some weight, we are working on that.

She is a little shy at first but she is a smart girl and adjusts quickly. She likes to be near her human. She sleeps in her crate at night and never makes a peep. She is not a barker. She is fine with the other dogs here and gets along with the kitten.

Pinta has had all her shots is spayed and chipped. She is a very sweet little apple head waiting for a home of her own.

Please email BJ
(bjrileytucson@aol.com) for more information about Pinta.

POESY

My name is Poesy. As you can see by my photo, I am a cutie. My ears stand at full attention, my eyes watch everything that goes on, and my body is eager to get going for a day of play (I love toys) and treats (Yeah. I love my treats, too).

You’re probably wondering why I’m in foster care, so let me tell you. A while back, some one, who remains nameless, dumped me and four other friends in the Camp Verde Marshall’s office yard. My current foster mom, Elaine, calls it Doggie Detention. She’s right about that! I’m glad she got me out of that ugly place.

Elaine took me to her home, but she’s not able to keep me forever, cuz she already has a big family of Chis. I know she cares about me and wants a loving family to adopt me. That could be YOU!

I’m only a year old and have lots and lots of energy. Does that mean I’m hyperactive? I don’t know, but hey, take me for a walk, give me some exercise, play with me, give me a few treats and I’m a happy Chi.

I gotta tell you that I’m not a lap dog, and I don’t like being carried around - like that furry kid in Legally Blonde - you get my drift. Of course, I can learn. If you spend some time teaching me good doggy skills and maybe take me to some training classes, I know I will shine. I’m already potty pad trained, will sit next to my human, and snuggle under the covers at night. I can be a little possessive, but between me and you, its because I’m scared.

I know in my heart that there is the perfect home for me. It could be yours. How ‘bout we do a meet and greet. See for yourself. Please, be mine!

Please email Elaine (elaine.greyfire@gmail.com) for information about Poesy.

PRECIOUS MARIE

Call me Precious Marie. I was born in October, 2008. I’m a 6 lb blonde, but no blonde jokes - please!
I love men, women and older kids. I’m a healthy, active Chi who loves cuddling, taking walks and going on car rides. My foster dad lets me sleep next to him. I like that!

I am potty trained and use the doggy door. I LOVE food and will bark for it. With a name like Precious, you know I must be sweet, and I am, except for a few little quirks like chasing my butt, being a little possessive of my human and okay, I confess. I can be rude to new visitors.

The Rescue brought me in from Yuma where I lived with one family for 8 years. They told the shelter that I was the best dog and would protect you in a thunderstorm even though they scare me too, but they still turned me in. If you would adopt me, cuz I am super sweet, we could work on my manners together and I will protect you in a scary thunderstorm. You and me… a one human house…. we could go places together!

Precious Marie is current on all vaccines, microchipped and spayed.

Please email Angela (areeves13@hotmail.com) for information about Precious Marie.

PROUD MARY

Introducing Proud Mary - Mary is ready to meet her furever family. She is a sweet 8 year old love bug. She does well with other dogs and kids. Her favorite place is on your lap. Proud Mary is deaf so some extra time will be needed to work with her on this. Her foster mom would be more than happy to answer any questions about this and how she has been working with her in her home.

Please email BJ
(bjrileytucson@aol.com) for more information about Proud Mary.

RASCAL

Rascal - Rascal is a 4 year old, neutered male, who was recently rescued from Pima Animal Care Center, in Tucson. He is approximately 7-8 pounds, microchipped, and up to date on all his vaccinations. Rascal is new to the rescue, so we're just getting to know him. So far he seems to be a bit fearful/snappy at first, until he warms up to you, then is very friendly, playful, and loving. He will be available for adoption the 2nd week of June, 2017. Please check back for updates, as we get to know Rascal better. Or you can email his foster mom, Terry, for more info today.

Please email Terry (terrykimble1@cox.net) for information about Rascal.

ROOKIE

Rookie is 7 yrs old and is blind in one eye. Rook loves women and is very distrustful of men and of male dogs. He acts like a dog who witnessed domestic violence. If a male in his foster home, raises his voice, Rookie runs to the closest female and gets between her and the male. Rookie is very affectionate, loves to snuggle and sleep right against the back of his human, as long as it is a female. He gets along with female dogs but sure does not want to be around any males. Want a good buddy and a protector?? Rookie is the man.

Please email Barb (barbr39@msn.com) for information about Rookie.

SANSA

Sansa is a shy little lady. She is one of the San Tan 13. About 2 years old and around 7 pounds, she will come jump in your lap for snuggling time, but has not yet trusted enough to let herself be picked up. She has to come to you. Given time, she will probably be a wonderful little lap dog. Once she is settled in your lap, she will let you pet her as long as you want. Sansa does kennel at night with Cersei, but loves to sleep in your bed with you too. She has learned to come in the dog door but still needs to be let out for potty. She will need some harness training but is very smart.

Please email Sindy (sindymiller0211@gmail.com) for information about Sansa.

SCOTTY

This very happy face belongs to Scotty, he is wise, sweet as honey and his dance moves can challenge those of John Travolta!
He is 11 years old about 6.5 lbs and ready for a family of his very own. Could you be his special dance partner?

Please email Elizabeth (ekpierce411@gmail.com) for information about how to adopt Scotty.

SNICKERS

Snickers is a very young 9 year old boy. He is a very sweet boy, about 12 pounds, dog door trained and very loving. He was adopted years ago, but then showed up at a shelter as a stray last year. Thankfully, she shelter scanned him for a micro chip and contacted the rescue so he could be picked up and brought back to safety.

We do not know what happened to the previous owner. But we do know Snickers is an amazing boy and whoever let him go lost out. He is good on a leash and sleeps in a dog bed in our spare bedroom, he does NOT kennel. Something must have happened that makes being confined in a kennel traumatic for him. He is such a good boy, there is no need to kennel him anyway. Snickers is good with other small dogs, but will not be placed with a much larger dog or young children. Snickers has been neutered, vaccinated, micro chipped and recently had a dental

Please email Sindy (sindymiller0211@gmail.com) for information about Snickers.

SONNY CORLEONE

Hi! I’m Sonny Corleone, but you can call me Sonny, Sonny Boy, Sonny Bono (my foster dad likes that one, lol). I was named in memory of an angel dog, Sonny Corleone (of the Gilbert 23), who lost his life in the Tragedy At Green Acre Dog Boarding.

I was found as a stray in Tucson, and brought to the Pima Animal Care Center, where my foster mama met me. I must have charmed her with my sad, hungry, and scared eyes, cause she decided she had to get me out of there. I went home with her a few days later, after my stray hold was up, and I was neutered. I’m shy and scared at first, but if you have hot dogs, and go slow, I will warm up quickly. I don’t know how to tell you what happened to me before I came to the rescue, but I am scared of loud noises, and voices, and did have some medical issues that my foster mama found after bringing me home.

I had cracked pelvis, and a broken tail. The vet thinks I was hit by a car, or got caught in a door. My broken tail, had not healed, and part of it was coming off, so the vet had to take it off. That’s okay, cause it was giving me a lot of pain, and now I’m pain free, and my foster parents say my new “little stump” is just as cute, if not cuter! I tested positive for tick fever, but was not showing symptoms. The vet put me on medications for 3 weeks just in case, and I’ve been off the meds for over 2 weeks now, and am doing great! I’ve been through a lot in my short life, but I don’t let it get me down! I’m still a happy, loving boy, who loves to snuggle, and once I trust you, I will follow you to the moon and back!

I was estimated at 3 yrs old, but my foster parents think I’m younger than that, as I have a lot of puppy qualities (I will play with anything I can find, socks, hats, slippers, and of course, my favorite stuffed toys). I am neutered, and chipped. I was a little on the skinny side, when I first came to the rescue, but now I’m just right, at a light & fit 7-8 pounds. I’m a little shy at first, but once I feel comfortable and safe, my personality comes out. I LOVE to play with toys, and rough house with my foster brothers! So if you have a lonely, playful pup, who needs a playmate, I’m your guy! As long as he (or she) isn’t too much bigger than me, cause I sometimes think I’m tougher than I really am. (Typical Chi, big dog trapped in a little dog’s body, haha.) I can also live with dog friendly kitties! Recently when they had visitors, my foster Mom & Dad found out that I do great with well supervised, gentle “little humans”. In fact, my foster Dad said he saw a noticeable change in my demeanor when he walked in with his grandson, Mason in the car seat. I should never be left alone with small children, but I very obviously love them, so could do well in a home with them.

I’m all healed up from my surgery, cleared medically, and gaining confidence, and trust in humans every day! So I’m 100% ready to find my forever home! Could it be with you??!! Please email my foster mama for more information today! I can’t wait to meet you!

Love,

Sonny C.

Please email Danielle (nomadgirl1975@yahoo.com) for information on how to adopt Sonny Corleone.

Hello, my name is Spicy and I am a brindle smooth coat chi-weenie.

I was born 3/1/2008 per my owner who had to surrender me to AZCR. I need a home with NO children under the age of 12. I would like to be the only dog as I can be a dominant female. I like to go for walks and ride in the car. I like going to Petsmart type stores that are doggie friendly but, I am not great with folks coming up to pet me and strange dogs upset me.

I would do wonderful in a home with a women or senior couple. I like my crate as my inside doggie house. I do not get on the furniture. I do use the doggie door.

I was attacked by a big dog and was hurt. My previous mom was hurt as well by the big dog. I am located up north in the Verde Valley.

Please email Cho (cho.robie@gmail.com) for information on how to adopt Spicy.

TERRI

Hi! My name is Terri.

I was born in November 2014. I’m a big girl, weighing in at 10 pounds. I ‘m not saying for sure, but I think I’m one of those mixed breeds - maybe a little Fox TERRIer with some Chi. Get ti?

My foster parents call me “The dog behind the couch”. Here’s the scoop: I came in from the county - scared, super scared. Humans made me nervous. They still do, but I’m working on getting rid of those fears. My foster parents believe that I will fall in line eventually, since I sit on the couch and take treats from their hands.

I used to be so scared when picked up, I would defecate, but now if you can catch me, I’ll let you hold me.
I love playing with other puppies in the house and I am very potty trained, I do not potty in the house, but someone needs to open the door for me. I don’t know how to use a doggy door or a crate. As for the leash. Don’t even try it. Not yet. I’ll need to get braver and feel more trust in humans before that happens.

One thing I love is food. Even though I’m still scared, I don’t miss a meal. I know when it’s time to eat, and I magically appear at my dish. When its night time and all the others have chosen their places of sleep, I saunter off to my bed behind the couch.

I hope I haven’t scared you. Yeah, I’m a challenge, but I’m a worthy one. If you understand dog behavior and don’t mind that I have fears, we could become a team. You could work with me and help me increase my confidence. I’d be ever so thankful, and you’d be proud of your new furry kid!

Terri is up to date on all her vaccines, microchipped and spayed.

Please email Angela (areeves13@hotmail.com) for information about Terri.

She loves people and is good with most dogs but not particularly cat friendly. She is very much a cuddler and is a larger mix at 13-15lbs. She is currently living in Flagstaff with her foster family.
